Hello, My name is Jason Robert Mossman, I am a native New Mexican born and raised in Taos, New Mexico. My family history extends over 10 generations in Northern New Mexico. My mother, Elvira “Linda” Mossman was born and raised in Taos, New Mexico by her parents Alicia Olivas-Martinez and Maurilio Martinez. My father, Jake Roger Mossman was born in Elizabeth Town, New Mexico and raised in Questa, New Mexico by his grandparents Beatriz and Fermin Cisneros. Both of my parents are graduates of Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico and are retired school teachers from the Taos Municipal School District. My interest in woodworking began because my father used to make furniture out of his home in Taos as I was growing up. I began carving at the early age of eight when I received my first set of carving tools. My interest has continued to grow throughout the years and I have received invaluable mentoring from the likes of Rick Gonzales of El Rito, NM. My father’s distinct style of carving and furniture making reflects the traditional Northern New Mexico Spanish Colonial influence passed on from generations of wood carvers before him. My passion and intent is to continue the traditional styles of woodworking from Northern New Mexico for generations beyond mine to enjoy. I hope you enjoy my woodwork and please contact me if you are interested in knowing more about what I do or want to collect any of my work. Sincerely, Jason “Jaymo” Mossman |
